The Vodun Festival, which is celebrated every January 10 in Benin, is reinvented through a new event around Vodun arts, culture and spirituality: Vodun Days.
A highlight whose first edition will take place on January 9 and 10, 2024 in Ouidah. The festivities will take place within the historic city and on the beach, near the Gate of No Return.
Benin, the beating heart of vodun
Benin intends to rehabilitate and offer to the world the wealth of arts and cultures linked to Vodun. Major projects are on the horizon, including the construction of an International Vodun Museum, the Vodun Convents Route and the organization of Vodun Days. Aware of the vitality and importance of its religious and cultural heritage, Benin highlights this heritage that it shares with many countries and cultures around the world, by asserting itself as the cradle of Vodun.
Vodun Days, an exceptional religious and cultural program
On January 9 and 10, 2024, Ouidah will be the international capital of the Vodun celebration. A route, from the city center to the seaside, will allow you to immerse yourself in the rhythms, songs, dances and symbols of Vodun.
The Vodun Days are organized around several highlights and festivities:
‐ Entertainment in Vodun squares and convents in the heart of the historic city of
Ouidah ;
‐ The Vodun Days Village with its numerous craft and catering stands
and entertainment;
‐ The artistic scene with its nightly concert and show on the beach;
‐ The Ceremonial of January 10 in the presence of high dignitaries with the parade
ritual of leaving the convents of the Vodun faithful.
From Vodun Hounvè dances to Zangbétos and Egungun outings, without forgetting parades in honor of divinities such as Yaoïtcha or Vodun Mami Dan, to open-air concerts on the seaside, punctuated by artists renowned international and Beninese: Ouidah Cité-Musée will offer a unique cultural and religious experience.
