Ajax Amsterdam: From Crisis to Success – A Dominating Win in the Eredivisie

Just a few weeks ago, Ajax Amsterdam was at the very bottom of the Eredivisie table, recording the worst period in the history of its performances in the Dutch league. Now it’s on the rise. He plays as if this crisis did not exist at all. On Saturday, Ajax defeated Vitesse Arnhem 5-0. This win means that he already counts in the fight for a place in European cups, which was unthinkable recently.

Ajax Amsterdam is going through a period of changes in director and management positions, but this has been reflected in poor results. In September, sporting director Sven Mislintat lost his job because he made incorrect moves during the transfer window. In October, coach Maurice Steijn was fired. Since John van ‘t Schip took over the giant, Ajax has been playing like a charm.

Ajax is winning in the league and has a great series

On Saturday, Ajax played against Vitesse in the 13th round of the Eredivisie. It turned out that it was a very easy rival to outplay or even defeat. The team from Amsterdam took the lead already in the third minute. The combination action was finished by 17-year-old Jorel Hato.

The guests were momentarily happy with the equalizer in the eighth minute, but the referees canceled the goal, calling it an offside position. Ajax immediately increased their lead thanks to a goal by Kristian Hlynsson. After just 12 minutes, the hosts could feel great comfort, which they confirmed on the pitch. They were playing with the ball, looking for lacy, dynamic actions and technical play. They felt they had an advantage over Vitesse in every way.

In the second half they only proved their superiority. Ajax scored three more goals. First, Dominik Oroz scored an own goal, and then Chuba Akpom and Kenneth Taylor scored. Vitesse had spurts but didn’t pose much of a threat.

Winning 5-0 in a truly convincing style in front of the home crowd is a serious argument to believe that Ajax has already overcome the crisis. In this match, the hosts fired as many as 19 shots, 12 of which were on target. The expected goals ratio (xG) was 2.88.

Ajax has definitely bounced back from the bottom, winning their third victory in the last four matches. During this time, the team from Amsterdam scored ten out of 12 possible points. He recorded a draw only in the match against Almere City on November 12 (2:2).

Thanks to such a good series, we managed to get out of the relegation zone and clearly get closer to the top. At the moment, Ajax is in eighth position in the table with 15 points, which means it could play in the play-offs for a place in the Europa Conference League. They are 12 points behind Twente Enschede, which is at the bottom of the podium, but have one game in hand.
