This week a new phenomenon appeared for Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey players. When they opened the map inside the game, a full-screen ad appeared. The advertising box showed that it was 20 percent off the newest game in the series, Mirage, and even had a working “buy now” button. The ads only appeared for players on the Xbox and Playstation versions of the game.
When Ubisoft then commented on the event they told me it was all due to a technical error. Actually, the company wanted to put the advertisement for Assassin’s Creed: Mirage in the main menu of other games in the series, but due to the said error, the advertisement ended up inside the games instead. Ubisoft also says that the issue was fixed as soon as they were made aware of it.
Although the problem was quickly fixed, people are afraid that this was not the “technical issue” that Ubisoft says it was. Instead, people believe that this was a foretaste of what may become reality in the near future.
