On November 4, 2023, more than 300 people gathered around the Peace Tree, at the Square de la Couronne in Nîmes and around the slogan “Immediate ceasefire!” in Gaza.
The two previous gatherings had been banned and the request for a march to the prefecture was not authorized on November 4.
Several speeches took place, from GES which set the framework, the dramatic situation in Gaza as well as in the occupied West Bank, the call for a Ceasefire, the position of France with attacks on public freedoms; followed the reading of the appeal text by an LFI activist, an intervention by the AFPS Nîmes to raise the voice of our friend from Gaza, Iyad Alastall, who recently spoke on Médiapart, from the UJFP, very applauded, from the PCF, from the NUPES deputy Michel Sala, from Ensemble 30, from the local representative of the Peace Movement, from a Free Thought activist, from a representative from the CCFD.
AFPS Nîmes thanks the activists of the EcoSocialist Left (GES) and LFI for launching the initiative. Indeed, the local AFPS group is impacted by proceedings launched by the Prefecture: “organization of an undeclared demonstration” and “participation in an undeclared demonstration”. This earned the signatories of the declaration at the prefecture summons for hearing at the police station, including police custody for one of them NZ, 80 years old, activist for human rights and the rights of the Palestinians, with summons before the deputy prosecutor for a “criminal composition”.
