– It’s a security that comes, to be able to perform and today it went a long way, says Ebba Andersson.
With two kilometers left in Saturday’s race, the victory was between Ebba Andersson and the American Rosie Brennan. Andersson started offensively and tried to go for the knock immediately, but Brennan kept pace with the Swede and had the victory for a long time.
But Ebba Andersson came back and was responsible for a strong finish that gave her a victory in the premiere, five seconds ahead of Brennan.
– Of course, it is a security to show up, to be able to perform and that it goes a long way. Just today I got to a good speed, Andersson says after the race and continues:
– It got tougher after the second lap, but I tried to focus on my riding and on the last hill I gave everything I had and put all my power there.
Karlsson satisfied
The Swedish success did not stop there. Frida Karlsson, who finished fourth in Friday’s sprint, gave a fine performance and ended up in third place, ten seconds behind Andersson. Moa Ilar finished fourth. In total, four Swedes made the top ten.
– The effort was stable, not so that you could take it in. But I am satisfied. I have been looking for such an effort and now I have it, says Frida Karlsson and then elaborates her thoughts on the start of the season:
– It’s a great start. I am where I want to be.
Kerttu Niskanen was the best Finn in Ruka på en sjunde plats. Heikki Saukkomaa/Lehtikuva
The best Finn was Kerttu Niskanen, who finished in seventh place, 38 seconds behind the lead. Krista Pärmäkoski was twelfth and Jasmi Joensuu finished in 16th place.
– It felt much like earlier this winter, the riding was not quite relaxed. It’s still good that I can take this position with a bad effort, says Niskanen Yle.
