Police in Rio de Janeiro are investigating the organization behind Taylor Swift’s concert that left one person dead last week. It is being investigated whether the company, Time for Fun (T4F), has endangered human lives.

23-year-old Ana Clara Benevides died at the concert in Rio de Janeiro. The city suffered from extreme heat, with wind chill temperatures of up to 59 degrees. About a thousand concertgoers fainted due to the heat and Benevides had become unwell just before the start of the show and later died on the way to the hospital. Taylor Swift postponed her next concert a day later.

Despite the extreme heat, fans of the American star were reportedly not allowed to bring bottled water into the stadium. “The event organizers are being called to hand over evidence, and an investigation is underway to establish the facts,” police now said in a statement. A second investigation has also been launched into Benevides’ death.

Organization acknowledges: it should have been done differently

Organizer T4F says it is fully cooperating with the authorities and says it is available to make statements. CEO Serafim Abreu now acknowledges that the organization “should have acted differently” in dealing with the overheated fans.

Taylor Swift is currently on a world tour with her The Eras Tour. T4F is responsible for organizing the three performances of that tour in Brazil. Tomorrow is the last Taylor Swift concert in Brazil, in São Paulo. The weather conditions are now more favorable for fans: it is cloudy, rainy and the temperature is still 28 degrees, but the perceived temperature is no longer as extreme as last week.
