Luis Garavito: The Beast – Colombia’s Most Brutal Serial Killer

Luis Garavito – also known as “The Beast” – is considered one of the most brutal serial killers in world history. He raped and killed up to 400 boys in Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela between 1992 and 1999. He died in prison in October of this year.

Luis Garavito was born on January 25, 1957 in Colombia. He had seven siblings, an alcoholic father who brutally beat and emotionally affected his children, and a mother who never showed any care or love to her children. Many believe she was a prostitute. Garavito’s father also did not shy away from physically and emotionally affecting his wife, beating her even when she was pregnant. Make the kids watch his wife have sex with her clients? Why not. These same customers also used to sexually assault Garavito.

During questioning after his arrest, Garavito told police he had also been sexually abused by the family’s neighbors, one of whom was a good friend of his father’s and the owner of a local store. He also said that his father beat his mother mercilessly even when she was in the last months of pregnancy.
