Slovak hockey forward Filip Mešár continues to amaze with his productivity. In the junior OHL, he played 11 games for the Kitchener Rangers, in which he scored 22 points for 8 goals and 14 assists.
In the productivity tables, he ranks 6th in the team. Unlike his higher-ranked teammates, he played half as many duels. That’s also why he earned a better spot in the Montreal Canadiens’ overall prospect rankings when he moved up to become the second-best prospect. Not only his teammates from the OHL remained behind him, but also players working in the AHL in the Laval Rockets jersey or in Europe.
Only defender Lane Hutson is better, who, among other things, is an offensive star for Boston University in the NCAA. “Filip Mešár continues his dominant season in the Ontario Hockey League. If not for Hutson’s scoring pace as a defenseman, he would be sitting at the top of our list.
Even with their strong numbers, he threatened to dethrone both of the Canadiens’ top prospects. Mešár, who scored 22 points in 11 games, is tied with teammate Carson Rehkopf (44 points in 22 games) for the league lead in points per game.” written by Marc Dumont for Montreal Hockey Now.
“His productivity is very encouraging. But more importantly, he is a little less hesitant on offensive forays and in the fight for pucks in front of the goal. It helps that he plays on one of the best teams in the CHL. His scoring ability was limited by a much weaker Rangers roster last season. But overall, it’s fair to say it’s a perfect start to the season for the 19-year-old forward.”
The Slovak striker is achieving better results compared to the previous season, despite the fact that the frequency of his shots on goal has decreased. If he keeps increasing his shots, he could avoid a drop in productivity. According to Marc Dumont, he should also work on deciding whether to shoot. In the end, he assesses that Filip Mešár is in the right place and the management of Montreal made the right decision when they sent him back to the junior team.
“Mešár is doing exactly what management wanted to see when they made the smart decision to send him to the OHL. It’s an important lesson worth keeping in mind as the Canadiens navigate the chilly waters of a rebuild. Promising players must be used in an ideal situation. In a situation that leads to prosperity. If not, their development will stop and the club that drafted them will suffer.”
