Israel Threatens Local Media Haaretz Over Critical Coverage of Gaza Aggression

Minister of Communications Israel Shlomo Karhi has proposed that local media outlet Haaretz be punished for its critical coverage of the aggression into the Gaza Strip Palestine.

The proposed penalties include barring Haaretz from publishing government notices and immediately stopping any payments to Haaretz from any state entity that advertises on the news outlet.

Karhi also sought to end all government subscriptions to the publication.

In a statement, Haaretz publisher Amos Schocken said he was not afraid of the government’s threats

“If the government wants to close down Haaretz, it’s time to read Haaretz,” Schocken was quoted as saying Al Jazeera.

Haaretz is one of the media that is critical of reporting on Israeli aggression against Palestine.

Israel continues to carry out brutal aggression against the Gaza Strip as a result of its war with the Hamas militia since 7 October.

After 49 days of aggression, Israel and the Palestinian militia, Hamas, agreed to a ceasefire which took effect today, Friday (24/11) at 07.00 local time or 12.00 WIB.

During the aggression, Israel attacked civilians. As a result of the attack, more than 14,800 residents in Palestine died. Meanwhile, the death toll in Israel as a result of Hamas’ surprise attack reached 1,200.

3,000 Palestinians were arrested by Israel

According to an Al Jazeera report, Israeli forces arrested more than 3,000 Palestinians, including children, women and journalists, since October 7.
