These two car brands are now in trouble: is there a fire risk? Recalled Models – Drifts

More problems for two brands that have already ended up at the center of safety controversies in the past. The owners don’t feel so calm.

Car safety is one of the priorities when driving a vehicle which, for better or for worse, sees us spending enough time inside it to risk literally becoming our grave, if something goes wrong on the motorway while we are speeding at one hundred per hour or even trivially, in the case of some cars, if it catches fire while we are charging it in the garage as in some extreme cases that happened during the year.

All the more reason to pay enormous attention to the reminders that Rapex in Europe and the NHTSA in America constantly send to the press offices to report problems and risks on board the cars that citizens drive regularly. For example, we are talking about two brands that already ended up at the center of a scandal some time ago and now have a safety problem again, albeit radically different.

We are talking about the Korean Hyundai – which this year is experiencing an impressive growth in popularity – and Kia: the two brands ended up at the center of a scandal in the USA when a trend on TikTok demonstrated how easy they were to steal their cars and specifically some models. Now the problem is more serious and could affect millions of vehicles in total.

Fire risk for Hyundai and Kia cars

The problem it came up again on Monday but it’s nothing new, unfortunately: the American NHTSA has launched a statement to warn Kia and Hyundai that overall there are as many as six and a half million cars of the brands that could be at risk of fire. Does this mean that if you drive a Kia or a Hyundai you should be afraid? Absolutely not, but it is a risk that must be assessed and resolved by the competent authorities…

Recall for Hyundai and Kia

On board the Kia as he communicated after the recall the Korean company the problem is the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit system which needs to be reviewed to ensure that the fire risk is eliminated on popular models such as the Borrego, Optima and Sportage. Hyundai instead attributes the fire risk on board the Elantra, Genesis and Vera Cruz cars – among others – produced from 2016 to today to the ABS system.

Already in September, beyond three million cars had been recalled for checks on this aspect. Now it will be the task of the NHTSA and the management to draw up a list of cars at risk that must be checked: for the moment, there have been no fatal cases but the risk of an accident is unfortunately always real and it is therefore necessary to pay close attention to the situation until will not be resolved.
