Former Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius, detained for ten years for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, will be released from prison on January 5th. This was decided by the Cape Town Parole Commission. The Department of Correctional Services explained that the former champion will be granted probation until he finishes serving his sentence. In 2016 the athlete was sentenced to 13 years in prison. Pistorius, now 37, shot his partner several times through the bathroom door of his home in Pretoria, South Africa, on Valentine’s Day 2013. Then he defended himself by claiming to have mistaken her for a thief, while according to the accusation Pistorius shot after an argument and therefore it was a premeditated murder.
