Users of social networks and forums have noticed that Ubisoft has begun testing new in-game advertising in older parts of Assassin’s Creed. Gamers did not appreciate this move by the French company.

Posted by triddell24 from the Reddit forum video clip (see below) shows a pop-up window while playing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey advertising a Black Friday discount on Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

The user came across intrusive advertising while playing the purchased version of Odyssey for Xbox, however, judging by the comments, the situation is also observed on PlayStationand on PC – and not only in Odyssey, but also at least in Origins.

The banner appears when you try to open the in-game map directly during gameplay and has a Ubisoft interface – the platform holders’ experiments with advertising have nothing to do with it.

Just got an in-game advertisement when I tried to go to the map

This is not the first time Ubisoft has tried to integrate advertising into its games, but in the past it has not interrupted the actual gameplay. Proposals for various types of boosters appeared next to gameplay elements.

Gamers greeted Ubisoft’s new initiative with hostility. “Totally, completely, 100% unacceptable.”writes Extroverted_Recluse. He was no less categorical dicetrain: “So, I don’t buy anything from Ubisoft anymore. I don’t pay to watch ads.”.

Such a move would not cause criticism in a free-to-play game, where monetization is determined by the distribution model, but gamers do not want to see such solutions in premium releases for $50-70.
