Eric Adams, the mayor of New York, has been charged with sexual assault. The incident is said to have happened in 1993. The 63-year-old Democrat denies the accusations.

The alleged victim says the incident occurred while she and Adams were both employed by the City of New York. Adams was working as a police officer at the time.

The woman also accuses Adams of assault and discrimination. She is demanding 5 million dollars (about 4.5 million euros) in damages, according to court documents.

Adams claims the incident never happened. He also doesn’t remember meeting the woman. “The mayor would never physically hurt anyone,” a spokesperson for Adams said.

The one-year term of the Adult Survivors Act, a law that allows victims of sex crimes to still file a complaint for time-barred incidents, expires on Friday in New York.
