Rijkswaterstaat’s Plan to Refloat Stranded Fishing Vessel off the Coast of Zandvoort

Rijkswaterstaat assumes that the fishing vessel, which stranded last night off the coast of Zandvoort, can be refloated. The ‘IJmuiden 22’ is attached to another ship with a cable. Previous attempts to pull the ship out of the sand failed. We now have to wait for high water.

“The moment at which we do it is very precise,” says Wiljan Meijvogel of Rijkswaterstaat. “It has to be done at high tide and before the storm that is coming.” The IJmuiden 22 landed on a sandbank early on Wednesday morning. The two crew members, who are doing well, are still on board. “It was quite cold last night, but they were taken care of as best as possible,” says Meijvogel.

So far, attempts to refloat the ship have not gone well. A tugboat from Scheveningen that was deployed to ‘liberate’ the IJmuiden 22 also ended up on a sandbank last night. As a result, there are now two boats on the beach of Zandvoort. Rijkswaterstaat will first try to free IJmuiden 22 next night. Tomorrow we will attempt to refloat the tugboat.
