Christopher Nolan is promoting the release of the digital version, on 4K Blu-ray DVD, of his latest hit ‘Oppenheimer’. The renowned filmmaker continues to be praised for his historical plot of the nuclear scientist Julius Robert Oppenheimer which has already entered among the highest grossers of the genre with more than 940 million dollars worldwide.
However, Nolan, also known for his iconic ‘Batman: The Dark Knight’ trilogy, took advantage of an interview given to Associated Press to answer one of the most popular rumors in recent weeks: the possibility of directing the next James Bond films after the end of the strike in Hollywood.
It was the journalist Krysta Fauria who asked the 53-year-old filmmaker if it would be in his plans to direct the emblematic saga of agent 007 after the protests by scriptwriters and actors ended. “I imagine that you are happy that the strike is over and that you are getting back to work on your next film. James Bond, maybe?” was the communicator’s question.
Next, Christopher Nolan refused to participate in the James Bond project, despite having mentioned, in previous interviews, his “love” for the saga of the most famous spy in cinema. This was the answer: “Sadly, no. The rumors are not true. But I am very excited that the strike is over and we are all back to work.”
This is how Christopher Nolan put an end to the comments that linked him to directing James Bond. It was the specialized media World of Reel that maintained that the director had “serious possibilities” of directing the next two screenings of agent 007 after a rapprochement with Bárbara Broccoli, the film’s current producer.
The same medium assured that Broccoli was interested in Nolan being the director and that he would have accepted. “The main problem at the moment seems to be the amount of creative freedom that Christopher Nolan wants for the film. Broccoli’s replacements, currently, appear to be Danny Boyle, Denis Villeneuve and Paul Greengrass,” the portal stated.
Christopher Nolan on directing James Bond: “It would be a privilege”
In July of this year, Christopher Nolan talked about the possibility of directing James Bond. It was in an interview given to his friend Josh Horowitz’s ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast that the filmmaker said that being in charge of agent 007 would be “a privilege.”
“I love those movies. The influence of those movies on my filmography is embarrassingly evident. It would be an incredible privilege to do one. At the same time, when you take on a character like that, you’re working with a particular set of limitations. So it’s kind of of responsibility that I also felt a lot when I faced Batman,” declared the Hollywood director.
