“OneWeb” has received permission to start satellite internet service in India

Starlink is currently the world’s leading provider of high-speed satellite Internet services. However, it is clear that competitors are following suit. One of them is OneWeb, which has announced that it has received approval to launch satellite broadband services in India.

OneWeb India, a subsidiary of low-Earth orbit operator Eutelsat OneWeb, has received the necessary approval from the country’s newly formed space regulator to launch its commercial satellite broadband services in India, it has been learnt. Consequently, “OneWeb” has become the first company that received permission to provide high-speed satellite Internet service in the world’s second largest market of Internet users.

It is important to note that OneWeb has overtaken industry leaders like Starlink and JioSpaceFiber to launch its service in India. The launch of the service, however, still depends on the radio frequency spectrum allocated by the Indian government.

It should be noted that OneWeb has already established and operates a complete network of Low Earth Orbit satellites. It is expected to be available globally by January 24 next year, including ocean and mountain regions.
