The rains that fell over the province of Luanda, last Tuesday, 21st, killed a child under 10 years old, after being swept away by a strong current of water, in the municipality of Belas.
The rainfall still left 800 homes flooded. The information was provided yesterday by the spokesperson for the Civil Protection and Fire Service (SPCB), in Luanda, Maina Panzo, who said that the rains still left many streets impassable and families homeless.
“Yes, we did have a report of a fatal victim. This is a child who appeared to be approximately 10 years old, who was swept away by the currents, in the municipality of Belas. Of flooded residences, we had a total of 800. Some streets in the province were even impassable”, she informed.
To ensure that residences were free quickly, the SPCB requested assistance from municipal administrations, so that these government institutions could provide means such as electric pumps to suction the water.
These activities began to be carried out on the same day that the rains fell, and the results were satisfactory in that some family members who had abandoned their homes began to return to their properties.
