The European Commission (EC) announced on Thursday the fourth round of recruiting applications for joint purchases of gas from EU countries, AP reported.
“This cycle of gas demand aggregation offers European businesses a new opportunity to join forces to buy the energy they need.
As large parts of Europe switch to heating, the EU Energy Platform continues to contribute to the efforts we are making to ensure everyone is warm this winter and keep energy prices affordable for citizens and European industry,” said Executive Vice- Chairman of the EC Marosh Šefčovič.
According to him, this energy platform was a successful result of the EU’s collective response to last year’s energy crisis and continues to serve today.
As follows from the EC communique published in Brussels, European companies have until November 28 to respond to the invitation to submit applications for joint gas purchases. Potential buyers will submit bids for the gas, which will be delivered between January 2024 and March 2025.
The combined offer will then be auctioned on the global market from December 4 to 5 to allow international gas suppliers to bid for supplies to European customers.
The EU Energy Platform was created as part of the REPowerEU plan to boost the diversification of the EU’s gas supply in line with its decision to remove dependence on fossil fuel imports from the Russian Federation.
