The Smartest Person in the World: Confessions and Victories

tvThe arrival of prison director An Janssens in ‘The smartest person in the world’ elicited a confession from Erik Van Looy. The presenter said in the episode that he once spent a night in jail. “The police thought we were squatters,” said Van Looy. In the game, singer Charlotte Adygéri rages on with her momentum.

“Whether they had ever been in jail themselves,” Erik Van Looy asked his candidates following the arrival of prison director An Janssens. Comedian Jeroen said that he was once in a cell, but otherwise the quizzers remained silent. And so the presenter himself took the floor. “I spent a night in a cell,” he admits. “And it was for something other than pissing on a combo.”

Van Looy does not want to discuss it further, but he previously did so in ‘James the musical’. There he said that he was out with a group of men, which included soundman Pascal Braeckman. They were drunk when they were arrested. “The police thought we were squatters,” Erik said. “I was the only sober one, because I wasn’t drinking yet and could therefore have perfectly explained to the police that nothing was wrong, then everything would have been resolved. But I didn’t want to spoil the atmosphere. I loved it.”

So in the end everyone was locked up. “Then they put us all together in one large cell,” Braeckman said at the time. “I think that was a bit their fault. We then started playing games and singing songs like: ‘And we’re not going home yet’.” Ultimately, everyone was allowed to leave the prison after one night.

Huge stress

In the game, Charlotte Adigéry continues to destroy the opposition. She also won her third participation. The Ghent singer has not had to play the final game even once. A good result, in which she puts her husband in his place. “He told me not to participate because I would go off,” she laughs. “But check me out now.”

Jeroen Leenders came out on top in the final. Ultimately, it was a question about Turkey’s neighbors that helped him win. “They warn you about it, but when you sit here the stress is enormous,” said An Janssens, who put things into perspective afterwards. Jeroen Leenders starts his seventh episode on Monday and comes in third place after Alex Agnew and Robin.
