“We are happy that we managed to win 2-0, because the Brazilians are a very unpredictable opponent. If we got to a tie-break, it would be very difficult, especially in front of their home crowd. It’s also good because of the score, because the group can get tangled up very quickly and every significant win can decide the next ranking,” Perušič told ČTK.
In the first set, Perušič and Schweiner bounced back from the Brazilians at 7:7 and kept the lead until the end without much difficulty. The second set was more even. The experienced home team eliminated a small deficit twice, but could not react to the three-point Czech streak at 16:17 in the wind.
“Our better serve and several important blocks by David, especially in the second set, were decisive,” said Perušič. “There was a very unpleasant wind here, which was changing direction. This led to the fact that two teams that pride themselves on quality recording and receiving found themselves in trouble and we saw many inaccuracies,” added the 29-year-old polar.
“We’re not entirely happy with how we handled some of the game situations, especially some of the easier balls. We failed to prepare well and solve the positions when we had the ball so-called free. That may have cost us the victory by a higher margin,” said Perušič.
Prague beach volleyball players dominated the elite tournaments in Uberlandia and Paris this year. They became world champions in Mexico last month and secured their place at the Olympic Games in the French capital next year.
