New York City Mayor Eric Adams is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in 1993, according to a lawsuit.
The lawsuit, which was filed late Wednesday, alleges that Adams assaulted the woman in 1993 when both were public employees in New York City.
A spokesperson for City Hall in the big city said on Thursday that Adams does not remember meeting the woman and that Adams denies the allegations “strongly”, reports BBC.
In 1993, Adams was employed as a police officer in New York City.
The lawsuit has been filed before a temporary law, the Adults Survivors Act (ASA), expires on Friday. The law, which came into force a year ago, has enabled victims of abuse to be able to sue their abusers even if the statute of limitations under normal legislation has expired.
The most famous lawsuit that has come as a result of the ASA is that of the writer E. Jean Carroll, who sued Donald Trump for an assault in the 1990s.
Celebrities Jamie Foxx and Axl Rose have also been accused of abuse in lawsuits filed before the ASA expires.
