Roger Federer sits with tears in his eyes next to Rafael Nadal, who also appears visibly moved: This image of Federer’s departure from professional sport was shown in the media around the world about a year ago. There was also a farewell mood at the TC am Brandl when a new board was elected at the general meeting.
In the club since birth
Walter Egen, who served as the association’s first and second board member for over 20 years, retired. As a final official act, he looked back on the tennis year 2023 together with the members who had appeared, acknowledged the club tournaments that had taken place and, together with the sports and youth officers, honored the results achieved by the teams during the points round. Before the new elections, a special item was put on the agenda, as long-standing members were honored for their loyalty to the club. Particularly noteworthy is the honor given to Thomas Gräbner, who was registered by his parents with the TC am Brandl immediately after his birth and can therefore look back on an impressive 43 years of membership.
Some traditions need to be broken
Mirko Minucci, who was proposed as the new first board member and unanimously elected, took over the further moderation of the evening. He is supported by the new second chairwoman Valeska Jansen-Egen. Minucci and Jansen-Egen expressly thanked the outgoing board members Walter Egen, Gabi Bruhn (secretary) and Toni Öxler (sports officer) as well as the auditors Gitti Munzinger and Enoch Jaksch-Munzinger with moving words and small gifts on behalf of the entire new board for their tireless commitment during their many years in office. Elvira Dilg and Jutta Egen, who will remain on the board as assessors, were also thanked. With the help of the new “team”, Minucci wants to give the club a breath of fresh air and break with some traditions. As usual, the tennis year will come to an end in 2023 with the Christmas party on the third Saturday in Advent (December 16th).
