During the day on Wednesday, the Caucus of Deputies of the Socialist Party announced the presentation of the first official complaint for the “Hermosilla Case” or “Audios Case”, for the crime of aggravated bribery of public officials typified in article 248 bis of the Penal Code. This, within the framework of the information revealed in the media about alleged bribes in public institutions in the also called “Evasion Mafias.”
In this regard, the head of the PS Bank, Daniel Manouchehri, stated that “we are filing this complaint because people are tired of impunity. People are tired of these crimes ending up in ethics classes. Here we hope that it can be thoroughly investigated and those responsible end up in jail.”
“We are in the presence of an extremely serious situation because relevant institutions for our country are put in check. When a group conspires to try to bribe public officials, our institutions and the credibility of fundamental pillars of our State are affected,” added the legislator for the Coquimbo Region.
Along these lines, the representative and second vice president of the Chamber of Deputies, Daniella Cicardini, stressed in this case that “it is important that we can move forward quickly with the tax reform, with respect to evasion and avoidance, and also with respect to law on the lifting of banking secrecy”.
“Why are some here so reluctant to persecute criminals and the corrupt? Honest people have nothing to fear or lose and it is part of what we have said as socialists, that we are going to do everything in our power to clarify the situation of corruption that we are experiencing in our country,” added the parliamentary of the Atacama Region.
Likewise, deputy Daniel Melo, representative of District 13 of the Metropolitan Region, pointed out that “our country cannot withstand more cases of corruption like the one we are seeing through public opinion and the entire investigation process we are experiencing. That is why this complaint that we have requested, as the Socialist Party Caucus, wants to advance no matter who falls. “We must know the whole truth and be able to move forward in regaining the trust of public institutions, because that is the country we deserve.”
Finally, the deputy for District 6 of the Valparaíso Region, Nelson Venegas, recalled that the collar and tie crimes, enacted as law this year, “was also a motion that was born from the Socialist Party Caucus because we want to persecute the delinquency. But not only common crime, but also this type of fraud that is committed by many people who, because they have money, because they have resources, often do not fall for it or do not have the corresponding penalties. So we want to be consistent on the issue of security.”
Chamber of Deputies approves creation of Investigative Commission
In a parallel track, the Chamber of Deputies approved the creation of a Special Investigative Commission (CEI) for the so-called “Hermosilla Case”, promoted by the socialist Daniel Manouchehri, in order to gather information on “the mafias”. of evasion” that could exist in public institutions.
“We have promoted an investigative commission into the Hermosilla Case, to be able to gather all the information regarding this serious case. We want to know the actions of the State, the measures they are taking, and also review any legislative shortcomings that may exist,” stated the PS parliamentarian.
It should be noted that the instance must focus on the investigation of background information in public entities regarding possible irregularities committed in the investigation of economic crimes; control of tax evasion and avoidance; bad habits; violations of the principle of administrative probity that have affected the financial market; possible cases of corruption and payments made to public officials; and the existence of possible “tax evasion and avoidance mafias” in relation to the facts investigated.
