First the lead singer of Guns N’ Roses, Axl Rose, and then the actor Jamie Foxx were accused this Wednesday of sexual assault by different plaintiffs, on the eve of the expiration of a law that allows victims of sexual violence to report their attackers although the facts have prohibited.
The rocker, whose real name is William Bruce Rose, was accused by American actress and model Sheila Kennedy of sexual assault that allegedly occurred in 1989, when the hard rock group was at the peak of its success.
In the lawsuit, Sheila Kennedy alleges that Rose, now 61, “sexually assaulted” her in a New York hotel room after meeting at a nightclub.
“Rose used her fame, status and power as a celebrity and performer in the music industry to have access to manipulate, control and violently assault Kennedy,” states the complaint, which asks for financial compensation for “emotional, physical, financial and “psychological” suffered.
The Guns N’ Roses songwriter and pianist had a reputation in the music industry for “aggressive, violent and hostile sexual behavior,” according to the 10-page lawsuit filed electronically on Wednesday by the 61-year-old model’s lawyers.
Kennedy describes that he had initially gone to a party in the hotel room of the legendary group’s vocalist and pianist at his invitation, but given the “awkward and disturbing” turn of the situation, Kennedy left the room with a friend of Rose’s.
The creator of hits like “Appetite for Destruction”, whose real name is William Bruce Rose, followed her and forced her to return by dragging her “like a caveman” to his room, where he tied her hands behind her back and abused her. her sexually.
Covered four times by the erotic magazine Penthouse, Kennedy, also 61, claimed that Rose, who was under the influence of drugs, “treated her like property used for his own sexual pleasure.”
Kennedy “felt she had no escape and was compelled to consent,” according to the court document filed Nov. 22 in New York County Supreme Court.
For his part, Eric Marlon Bishop, better known as Jamie Foxx, was accused of sexually assaulting a woman, who appears under the generic name of Jane Doe (as people who wish to remain anonymous are called in court), in a terrace of a bar and restaurant in Manhattan in August 2015 when I was with a friend.
In the complaint, Jane Doe met Foxx, who she said was out of drinks, at the Catch NYC restaurant with a friend and they asked her if they could take a photo with him.
The woman claims that after taking photos with the actor, he complimented her and pushed her to an “isolated area” where he touched her chest before sliding his hands to her genitals despite her resistance.
A security guard would have witnessed the attack but did not intervene, according to the complainant. Only when her friend came to pick her up did Foxx stop groping her and leave.
The Catch NYC $ Roof restaurant and its owner Mark Birnbaum are also the subject of the complaint by the victim, who was 18 years old at the time, and who is seeking financial compensation for the pain, suffering, emotional anguish, anxiety and humiliation that it caused him. the assault, for which he claims he had to receive medical treatment.
These complaints are added to another by the artist Cassie, whose real name is Casandra Ventura, who filed a lawsuit last week against rapper Sean Combs for sexual assault and rape. A day later they announced a financial agreement to settle the case.
Likewise, Jimmy Iovine, producer of singers such as Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith, Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, co-founder of Beats with Dre, and Interscope, was also denounced for sexual assault.
All of these lawsuits are made under the New York law known as the Adult Victims Act, which expires this Thursday and allows filing complaints of sexual abuse that have already expired.
