Dutch Parliamentary Election Results: PVV Gains Ground, VVD Loses Seats

According to the survey conducted by the public opinion research company “Ipsos”, PVV won 35 out of 150 parliamentary seats, doubling its previous representation.

Meanwhile, the liberal-conservative People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), represented by the former Prime Minister Mark Rites, won only 23 seats, losing 11 mandates.

On the other hand, the coalition of the Labor Party and the Greens, which nominated Frans Timmermans, the former EU commissioner and the founder of the so-called green course, as its candidate for prime minister, won 26 seats.

PVV’s popularity grew rapidly when Rite’s successor as leader of VVD and the party’s candidate for the head of government, Dilana Ješilgīs, announced that this time she did not rule out the possibility of cooperation with Wilders, which Rite had always categorically rejected.
