Eight million pesos stolen | Armed raid on Lionel Messi’s father-in-law’s shop

The family of football star Lionel Messi’s wife has fallen victim to another armed attack in Argentina. The perpetrators fired at a car carrying two employees of Messi’s father-in-law’s supermarket in the city of Rosario and stole the store’s income of around eight million pesos (around 20,600 euros), local media reported on Wednesday. One of the victims is said to be a cousin of Messi’s wife Antonela Roccuzzo.

No one was seriously injured in the attack. Back in March, criminals fired 14 shots at the metal roller shutter of the Único supermarket in Messi’s hometown. They also left a note that read: “Messi, we are waiting for you.” Rosario is suffering from a wave of violence. Several drug gangs are fighting for control in the city northwest of Buenos Aires. Since the beginning of the year, almost 230 people have been killed in the city with around 1.3 million inhabitants.
