Benfica announced this Wednesday that its fans will be prevented from entering the ground of Austrian club Salzburg, for the sixth round of the group stage of the Champions League, on December 12th.
According to the short statement from the Reds, fans will not be able to travel to the Austrian champion’s home, after the team was “notified by UEFA” of the punishment, following the incidents during the visit to Real Sociedad.
In that game, pyrotechnic devices were launched from the area allocated to the “eagles” in the stands, with some of these devices being dropped on fans of the Spanish emblem.
“The matter will now be analyzed internally, so no further public comments will be made”, the note reads.
The incidents occurred during the fourth round of Group D of the Champions League, which the Reds lost 3-1.
