Speaking from a video link at the G20 summit, the head of the Kremlin could not ignore the topic of the war in Ukraine, which was unleashed by the Russian Federation. He cynically stated that we should “think about how to stop this tragedy.”
“Military actions are always a tragedy for specific people, specific families, and the country as a whole. Of course, we must think about how to stop this tragedy. By the way, Russia has never refused peace negotiations with Ukraine,” Putin gave another dose of absurdity .
In the context of aggression against Ukraine, he also brought up the war between Israel and Hamas, drawing parallels with the so-called “coup” in Ukraine (as the Kremlin authorities call the events on the Maidan) and the “extermination of the population in Palestine.”
“The war in Ukraine cannot but shock, but isn’t the coup in Ukraine and the extermination of the civilian population there and in Palestine shocking?” – Putin added.
Ukraine is not negotiating with Russia
It should be noted that the Kremlin authorities from time to time resort to such statements like “readiness for negotiations with Ukraine,” but only on the conditions Moscow needs.
The Ukrainian side, if at the beginning of a full-scale war, still tried to negotiate with the aggressor in order to counteract the escalation. Now and for quite a long time, there are no negotiations regarding peace between Kiev and Moscow.
Ukraine’s decision not to negotiate with the dictator was final after Putin announced the annexation of the occupied territories of Ukraine. This happened on September 30, 2022. At the same time, President Vladimir Zelensky clearly stated that the Ukrainian side refuses dialogue and will only speak when another leadership comes to power in the aggressor country.
In recent statements, the head of state emphasized this: the only condition for negotiations with the Kremlin is the temporarily occupied territories being completely liberated from the enemy.
