The city of Augsburg is developing an education report for senior citizens

In order to get an overview of the existing offering, the institute first carried out an inventory survey. Now, in a second step, the exact needs, recommendations for action and possible measures are determined. To this end, SAGS is holding several rounds of discussions. These are so-called focus groups to which representatives of large adult education providers, such as the VHS, or denominational educational organizations as well as the users themselves are invited.

“Representatives of numerous institutions with low-threshold offers in the districts are also involved, where you can simply stop by if you are interested,” explains Christian Wiedenmann from the senior citizen work department in the Office for Social Services, Seniors and People with Disabilities (ASL). These include, for example, the management of the multi-generation meeting points in the Augsburg districts or the senior citizens’ clubs in the parishes. “All of you contribute to seniors’ education is great,” emphasizes Wiedenmann.

Social officer Martin Schenkelberg: “We have to be well positioned”

At the most recent round of discussions on November 20th, social officer Martin Schenkelberg thanked the participants for their commitment and commitment to education in old age: “The inventory showed us that we already have a very extensive and diverse system in Augsburg, thanks to the many committed providers “We have an offer for older citizens that is spread across the entire city,” said the social officer. However, it is important “that we remain well positioned in the future in view of the many challenges and opportunities, for example in the areas of digitalization or health prevention. We are now laying the foundations for this.”

Overview of offers in the annual program for seniors

The education report should be completed by the end of 2024. He receives technical support from the Senior Citizens’ Advisory Board, the ASL and the educational planning department in the Department for Education and Migration. An overview of some of the numerous offers is published by the city’s senior citizen work department in the annual program for senior citizens. The next annual program is expected to appear in January. (pm/rs)
