Hamas and Israel Agree to Ceasefire for Four Days, 150 Palestinian Prisoners Also Released

FAJAR.CO.ID, GAZA — Israel and Hamas reached an agreement on a temporary ceasefire or pause in the war for 4 days.

According to JawaPos.com from Al Jazeera, the 4-day ceasefire included the release of 50 people held hostage by Hamas and the release of 150 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.

The agreement was reached after speakers reached a deal mediated by Qatar on Wednesday (22/11).

Qatar confirmed that it had succeeded in reaching an agreement as a mediation effort also involving Egypt and the United States.

“The Israeli government is committed to repatriating all the hostages. Tonight, they approved the proposed deal as the first stage to achieve this goal,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Hamas also issued a statement confirming that 50 women and children detained in the Gaza region would be released in exchange for Israel releasing 150 Palestinian women and children from Israeli prisons.

Israel will also stop all military action in Gaza, including allowing hundreds of trucks carrying humanitarian aid, medical supplies and fuel to enter the region.

However, this ceasefire was only temporary, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu firmly said that the Israeli military would continue the war.

“We are at war and we will continue the war until we achieve all our goals,” he said.

Some analysts say the international community should use this pause to try and ensure a long-term end to the fighting. (jpg/dawn)
