JAKARTA – Chasing a night view of full star clusters may not always be easy to do. We need a location that is completely clean from light pollution and is right when the Moon is not present in the night sky.
Mountains are one of the remote locations that can be an option to find a night sky full of stars. For those of you who enjoy activities stargazing (gazing at the stars), there are many places in Indonesia that are suitable for stargazingbut some of them are certainly mountains.

Mount Bromo

Mount Batur
Shifting to the island of Bali, the second highest active volcano in Bali is probably famous for its caldera and Lake Batur. However, never underestimate the night sky that Mount Batur can offer.
Its location is quite secluded from the bright nightlife of Bali, Mount Batur seems to exist in another universe that is rich in silence and tranquility.
You don’t need to go to the top to catch the starry night sky, camping on the edge of Lake Batur is more than enough to catch the dark skies of Bali. As an addition, the Nyepi celebration moment can be the best time for stargazing here because on this one night Bali becomes an island that is completely free of light.
Mount Prau
Returning to Java Island, Mount Prau in Central Java is one of the best locations for stargazing not only because of the beauty of the starry night sky. This mountain is also the closest to Jakarta and has a short climbing route that is comfortable even for beginner climbers.
Its reputation as a mountain with beautiful landscapes and skies means that Prau Peak is always busy as a camping location almost all year round.
Just like Bromo, apart from the main menu stargazing You can also enjoy golden sunrise which is one of the favorite morning moments of many mountain climbers.
Maros Karst Mountains
Far away from South Sulawesi, the karst mountain range of Maros can be one of the best spots to enjoy a starry night. The best location is in Kampung Berua, where you can enjoy stargazing on limestone rocks with mangrove forests.
Not just looking at the sky, for those of you who are interested in a variety of flora and fauna, Berua Village has high biodiversity.

This choice of activity may never really become a popular activity in Indonesia, however, through this activity we can better understand how small the Earth we live on is and how seriously we take care of it.
