LEF Party Leader Disrupts Debate, Calls for VVD to Never Come to Power Again

The leader of LEF, a relatively unknown youth party, came on stage and shouted from close range at the politicians from VVD, NSC and GroenLinks-PvdA that they belong to the ‘old politics’. He told VVD leader Dilan Yeşilgöz that her party should ‘never come to power again’.

The boy, Daniël van Duijn, was removed by security. He continued to scream loudly, as can be seen in the images below. Shortly after the incident the debate continued:

Security handed Van Duijn over to the police. Officers decided to arrest him, a police spokesperson said.

Trying to attract attention

According to the polls, the new party LEF has little chance and is trying to attract attention with striking actions. The party says on its website that Van Duijn has ‘demanded visibility for the voice of young people’.

Van Duijn previously disrupted the broadcast of Buitenhof by pasting a poster of his party on the window of the recording location.

The activist called Pieter Omtzigt ‘old fart’. He then turned to Yeşilgöz and said: “Your party must never come to power again, you are letting people down.”

He accused Frans Timmermans (GL-PvdA) that his party has handed the Netherlands over to capitalism.

‘We couldn’t have foreseen this’

Politicians reacted with shock and wondered how the demonstrator could have been admitted into the audience of the debate. The NOS said it would find out. He had not been labeled as a risk in advance. “We could not have foreseen that he would do this,” said a NOS spokesperson.
