The Supreme Court of the self-proclaimed DPR sentenced 28-year-old Ukrainian soldier Alexander Svinarchuk to life imprisonment on charges of murder and cruelty to civilians. This was reported by the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office and the Investigative Committee.
Svinarchuk was a company commander of the 36th separate marine brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to the prosecution, from February 28 to April 9, 2022, Svinarchuk, while at the combat positions of Ukrainian troops on the territory of Azovobschemash in Mariupol, gave orders to kill civilians.
According to the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office, Svinarchuk’s subordinates killed 21 civilians and tried to kill 16 more people, but they managed to escape.
Svinarchuk, how? asserts The Investigative Committee fully admitted its guilt. He will serve his sentence in a special regime correctional colony.
Previously, Svinarchuk’s subordinates, who, according to the prosecution, directly killed civilians, received sentences. Ivan Taran received a life sentence on September 11 (as the prosecution claimed, he killed four people), Vitaly Antonov in October received 24 years in prison on charges of murdering a civilian.
Another defendant in this case, marine Denis Rashplya, according to data “Kommersant”, during a month of service at three posts in Mariupol, killed 16 people and wounded at least nine more. The outcome of his case is unknown.
