The popular British television program Top Gear won’t be returning for a while. The BBC halted the car show last year after presenter Andrew Flintoff was seriously injured during recording of the program in December. Since then Top Gear no longer on television.
Flinthoff, 45, is a former cricketer and has been one of the presenters of the program together with Paddy McGuinness since 2019. Two months ago he showed himself in public for the first time, with scars on his face.
The former captain of the England national cricket team recently reached a settlement with the BBC worth around 11.5 million euros, due to the broadcaster’s negligence. The BBC also apologized. Flinthoff said his life has been changed by the serious accident.
Popular
Its popularity grew between 2003 and 2015 Top Gear to great heights, in the United Kingdom and beyond. With presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, the program was sold and broadcast in 170 countries.
In 2015, the trio quit because the BBC did not want to renew Clarkson’s contract after he punched a producer. They then signed a multi-million contract with Amazon Prime, where to this day they create a similar program called The Grand Tour.
After the departure of Clarkson, Hammond and May, viewing figures also fell. An average of 4.5 million Britons watched the last season. Compared to an average of more than 6 million for 2015.
