The former head of the Department of Interdepartmental Cooperation and Internal Security of the Investigative Committee, Mikhail Maksimenko, died in a colony in the Nizhny Novgorod region. His death confirmed lawyer Andrey Grivtsov.
According to the telegram channel “112” associated with the security forces, Maksimenko’s body found in a storage room in a psychiatric hospital. An RBC source close to the FSIN speaks about this. According to him, Maksimenko was undergoing treatment after a suicide attempt.
The Telegram channel “Judicial Sneakers” reports that the preliminary official version of Maksimenko’s death is suicide. Channel Source claims that the ex-colonel was “all broken and sick from injuries and concussions,” but recently he “didn’t complain.”
In April 2018, Maksimenko was sentenced to 13 years in a maximum security colony, having been found guilty of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale. He was also given a fine of 165 million rubles and was stripped of the rank of colonel of justice. In 2020, on a combination of charges, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison and a fine of 250 million rubles.
The investigation believes that Maksimenko received 500 thousand dollars from businessman Oleg Sheykhametov in exchange for assistance in the release of thief in law Zakhary Kalashov (Shakro Molodoy) and Andrei Kochuykov (Italyanets). In addition, Maksimenko allegedly received 50 thousand dollars from businessman Badri Shengelia. For this money, the colonel, according to investigators, promised to initiate criminal proceedings against the police who seized the watch from Shengelia.
