Streamer Pokimane begins an apology tour for her cookies

Prominent streamer Pokimane has apologized for an insensitive comment she made in response to a “rude viewer” during a live stream on November 18th. This followed a major scandal surrounding its new snack brand.

Iman Pokimane Anis announced on November 13 the launch of a new company called Myna, which offers a “healthy snacking alternative” in the form of cookies. The cookies, which currently only come in one variant (mini overnight cookies), are made from non-GMO ingredients and contain vitamin D. However, the price has caused outrage: $28 for a four-pack of 400 gram bags, which many, rightly, consider too expensive.

The streamer was also accused of using a product from another snack brand, Toatzy, which offers similar mini overnight cookies with the same ingredients as Myna. Although Myna’s cookies contain more nutrients and vitamins than Toatzy’s, this slight difference has not convinced its many critics.

Our product formula is unique to Myna and exclusive to us. We’ve been developing overnight mini cookies for two years. This process involved many stages of testing and ingredient changes.

Although the ingredients are different, the concept is the same, but while Toatzy snacks cost $10 for one 400 gram bag, Myna’s are $28 for 450 grams of cookies.

Pokimane responded to the criticism during her live broadcast on November 18, mocking those who can’t afford her healthy snack.

I have to say this for the last time. It’s hard for me to understand when people say, “Oh my god, $28 for a cookie.” These are four packages. It’s $7 per package. I know, I know, math is hard when you’re an idiot, but if you’re a poor guy, just say so. Anyway, let’s move on. If you want to pay $8 for Twitter Blue for a couple of pixels, that’s fine! That is, spend your money as you want, I will spend mine as I want, and everyone else will spend theirs as they want.”

On November 19, Pokimane tweeted that her comment was “100% intended as a joke.”

I also understand that the current price of cookies may be high for some, and I promise that we will continue to take pricing into account to make [Myna] as accessible as possible.

She later added another post, clarifying that her statement was aimed specifically at “one rude viewer” and was not intended as a general statement addressed to her entire community. As you can imagine, not everyone was enthusiastic about Pokimane’s words. However, some content creators are defending her and her cookies, including socialist streamer Hasanabi, and others.
