The First Accordion Orchestra Emmendingen is 40 years old. The Steinhalle was sold out for the festival concert.
The First Accordion Orchestra Emmendingen was founded in 1983 and today it has 190 members, including many young people. The concert last Saturday showed that the audience remained loyal to the orchestra. The stone hall was sold out with 400 visitors.
The almost four-hour program loses none of its magic at the end of the evening. The Tonika Orchestra kicks off with the iconic intro, which can still be seen before every Disney film and comes from the feature film Pinocchio. Re-enacted scenes from the films are shown on a screen in the background during the screening. Originals were not allowed to be used due to Disney’s licensing regulations, said CEO Simon Knab. Felix Miller and Ronny Fugmann were responsible for arranging the pieces. They had to laboriously put each note down on paper individually because the scores were also difficult to obtain. They have been rehearsing since spring, says press officer Adrian Hoffmeister.
The orchestra, which consists of 30 alumni, plays a medley from Disney’s first feature film Snow White, as well as the classic “Try it with Coziness” from The Jungle Book. At this point at the latest, the spark spreads to the audience. The soloists Ellinor Amini and Danilo Knab shine in the medley from Moana and everyone now knows songs from Frozen.
After the break, the “Allegro giocoso” ensemble plays pieces from more modern animated films such as Toy Story, The Incredibles or Lightyear. The expanded Disney cosmos also comes into play after the break, for example with music from the Marvel film universe or from the galaxy far, far away in which the Star Wars films are set.
The brilliant finale is a medley from the film “The Lion King”, for which all 90 musicians are on stage together. The film music marathon only ends after four hours with an encore and enthusiastic applause.
