Jakarta –
Hundreds of refugees Rohingya who were stranded in Aceh were rejected by a number of residents in Aceh. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy spoke.
“I haven’t seen anything serious, just limited outbreaks,” said Muhadjir after attending the seminar ‘Together Prevent Silent Pandemics of Antimicrobial Resistance’, in Jakarta, Monday (20/11/2023)
Muhadjir said the Indonesian government was still open to Rohingya refugees. “But the point is that we are very welcome, but we also have to be served well,” he added.
Even so, Muhadjir said, the government must also pay attention to the citizens’ willingness to accept Rohingya refugees. There are many aspects to consider.
“But you have to pay attention to the availability of residents to receive the person concerned. Because this is related to the issue of the presence of an entity in a place, which of course is not just a person, but also their culture, behavior and accommodation, then it has to be seen from that side,” he said.
“I ask the regional government, especially the province of Aceh and the districts where it is located, to also pay attention to this,” he added.
It is known that as many as 249 Rohingya refugees who arrived using wooden boats in Bireuen, Aceh, were rejected by residents. Residents reject Rohingya refugees because they are considered troublesome.
The ship carrying Rohingya refugees arrived at the shoreline of Pulo Pineung Meunasah Dua Village, Panjang Bireuen District, Thursday (16/11/2023) at dawn. Learning about the arrival of Rohingya refugees again, people flocked to the location.
Meanwhile, the police revealed that the community rejected the arrival of Rohingya refugees because there were no shelters. Apart from that, the previous refugees who fled were considered not to maintain cleanliness.
“The refugees who fled did not maintain cleanliness and did not respect Islamic law and customs among the community,” said Lhokseumawe Police Chief AKBP Henki Ismanto as reported by detikNorth SumatraThursday (16/11).
