The national team meritorious left-back Pierre Neurath Bengtsson, 35, joined Djurgårdens IF from FC Copenhagen ahead of the 2022 season, but during the past season received little playing time with four appearances in the Allsvenskan.
Neurath Bengtsson is now on an expiring contract, and on Monday the club’s sporting director Bosse Andersson confirmed that they will soon sit down and talk about the future.
– We train for the rest of the week, and then we will sit down, says the sports manager to the Football Channel.
What is it leaning towards?
– We have a discussion. We’ve had a chat, and we’ll have to discuss with Pierre what his thoughts are, so I can’t say anything.
Has Pierre been clear to you about what he wants?
– He could consider staying, but above all he wants to play.
In total, Neurath Bengtsson has played 37 games with Djurgården. At the end of October, he said the following about whether he wants to stay at the Stockholm club:
– I could have imagined staying, I know that I have performed well and feel good in the team and at Kaknäs. I’ve trained a bit as a centre-back, but now it felt good to be replaced as a left-back, he said and continued:
– Then I have to be realistic. Now Djurgården has a lot of players in that position, so it is clear that it will be difficult.
Currently, Djurgården also has Samuel Dahl and Rami Kaib as left backs.
