The Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, stayed on November 17 in the locality of Bindoumba, in the South region, for the launch of the third phase of the rural electrification project by Solar Systems Photovoltaics, which aims to electrify 1000 off-grid localities through decentralized production of electrical energy. The third phase, launched at the end of last week, consists of electrifying a total of 87 localities in the ten regions of Cameroon, for a total budget of 34.76 billion FCFA, financed thanks to buyer credit granted by the Chinese operator’s bank. Huawei Technologies, technical partner of Cameroon in the implementation of this project.
The work of said phase must be carried out within 24 months, and consists of the construction of mini photovoltaic solar power plants with lithium storage batteries with an operating autonomy of 24 hours a day in the 87 localities, the construction of associated distribution networks, supply of the metering system (prepaid meters). Note that the production capacities of said mini power plants vary from 21.6 to 183.6 kilowatt-peaks. It is worth pointing out that for this phase of the work, it is expected that at least 10,000 new households in rural areas will be connected. Furthermore, strengthening the capacities of the teams responsible for the maintenance and management of said works is planned as well as the provision of a stock of spare parts. To date, the first two phases of the project have already been completed, and have made it possible to build 350 solar power plants, including the associated networks; which made it possible to electrify 27,400 households.
It is not superfluous to recall that the rural electrification project by Solar Photovoltaic Systems covers the entire national territory, and aims to improve the living conditions of the beneficiary populations by ensuring broad coverage of electrical energy in isolated areas. and far from interconnected networks; the aim being to ensure access to quality electrical energy for Cameroonians in rural areas, at a controlled cost. “ It is worth remembering that the bill payment system is innovative, because it is carried out through mobile telephone networks. The consumer that you are no longer needs to travel or stand in long queues to pay your energy consumption bill.supported the Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, during the launch of work on the third phase of this project.
