Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Francesco Bagnaia gave a striking response after hearing the reason Jorge Martin who blamed the Michelin rear tire after the race MotoGP Qatar 2023 at the Losail Circuit, Sunday (19/11).
Bagnaia successfully widened the gap at the top of the 2023 MotoGP standings after finishing second in Qatar. Pecco is temporarily 21 points ahead of Martin, who was only able to finish tenth at Losail.
After winning the Qatar MotoGP Sprint Race, Saturday (18/11), Martin blamed the Michelin rear tire after only being able to finish 10th in the Grand Prix race. The Pramac racer also feels that Michelin ‘stole’ the 2023 MotoGP world title from him.
“I feel they stole the title from me. Before this Sunday’s race I was sure I could become world champion. However, now the mission has become very difficult,” said Martin as quoted by Speedweek.
“You saw when I started my rear tire was spinning so wildly. It was as hard as a rock. It looked like I forgot how to race at night. But usually you have that situation when the surface is dirty and the tire has been used for 30 laps, but that’s not the case, we were there “at the starting location. And the tires are really new. Now you can guess what happened,” Martin added.
Responding to Martin’s reasons, Bagnaia said tire problems were nothing new. Pecco thinks Martin should be aware that tire problems could disrupt the MotoGP race at any time.
Bagnaia seemed to disagree with Martin’s accusation that the 2023 MotoGP world title would be determined outside the track.
“Unfortunately, sometimes we have to face situations like this, and there is nothing we can do about it. We have to fix the tire problem. This problem arises because our motorbikes are getting faster and faster. Even a small problem in the tire can have a big impact, “said Bagnaia, quoted from GP One.
Bagnaia experienced the same thing when he was only able to finish fifth in the 2023 Qatar MotoGP Sprint Race. A number of parties accused Bagnaia of just looking for excuses after Martin had cut the gap to just seven points in the MotoGP standings.
“On Saturday [Sprint Race], I’m not looking for an excuse. The situation is indeed bad. But, I don’t care what they say, the important thing is that I appear fast. “Only a few people said I was just making excuses,” said Bagnaia.
“My performance today, I expected it to happen in the Sprint Race, but it didn’t happen. In the end there is good luck, there is bad luck. But we can always overcome those problems. Like what happened to Martin today, the conditions were bad, but it can be done happened to you,” said Bagnaia.
