“This position has found me,” said Kristina Dierkes-Denke on the occasion of her official inauguration last Friday in the Citizens’ Hall of Goldenstedt Town Hall. Dierkes-Denke has recently become the new principal of the Huntetalschule after taking over as acting director there for a year. She is the successor to long-time primary school principal Theresia Espelage, who retired last year.
Kristina Dierkes-Denke said in her speech that a chain of coincidences brought her to the elementary school in Goldenstedt, where she lives. If you had asked her two years ago where she saw herself working in the future, she would not have had the idea of becoming head of the Huntetal School, the teacher confessed and added that she had always wanted to lead and shape a school . “I really enjoy working with you and you,” she said to the group and had many words of praise for her colleagues and the local administration. Her new job as headmistress is not one for a lone fighter, but requires a good team. She sent special thanks to her family and friends.
Filling school management positions is not easy
Kristina Dierkes-Denke previously worked at the Wildeshausen secondary school and her move to the Huntetalschule brought with it some of the “pitfalls of civil service”, as Frank von der Aa from the Osnabrück Regional State Office for Schools and Education suggested in his speech. It took a year of acting leadership before Dierkes-Denke was allowed to take up her new position.
Filling school management positions is no longer so easy, said von der Aa, and he was all the more relieved that when Espelage said goodbye, it was already clear that Dierkes-Denke had declared himself ready to take over. A change in school leadership is always a “significant event,” said the head of the school department and described the office of headmaster as the “heart of the school.” He ended his speech by handing over a well-filled candy jar, which was intended to symbolize the colorful everyday school life.
On behalf of the Huntetalschule staff, deputy principal Margret Beerding brought a colorful bouquet of flowers that was intended to reflect the diversity of the staff. From “arrogant roses” to “undemanding splashes of color from the garden” and gerberas that need support to seasonal bloomers – “colleagues who are only there for a short time”. Beerding also alluded to her colleague’s athleticism and packaged this accordingly in her speech. The team, i.e. the staff, will support her in the future, promised Beerding and wished the new headmistress every success.

The principals of the three other Goldenstedt schools – Axel Krämer (Marienschule), Simone Cramer (Don Bosco School Lutten) and Bettina Rösler (St. Heinrich School Ellenstedt) wrapped their greetings in a poem in which they included several personal pieces of information by Kristina Dierkes-Denke. Those present learned about her sporting activities, her travels in the motorhome and about her life on the farm with her husband and two sons.
Further greetings were delivered by Jan Rudolph from the school parents’ council as well as from the support association and pastoral officer Holger Schlömer on behalf of the two Goldenstedt parishes. In addition to the welcoming words by Mayor Alfred Kuhlmann, various creative contributions from students from the Huntetalschule brightened up the event.
