Novak Djokovic delivered another major performance this weekend. Despite an initial defeat against Jannik Sinner in the group stage last Tuesday, the world number 1 took his revenge against the Italian on his own land (6-3, 6-3). A final without much suspense, since the Serbian player broke his young 22-year-old opponent at the start of each set. Sinner thought he could come back in the second round, but he wasted two break points before giving him the title on a double fault.

Djokovic wins his 7e Master, and becomes the sole holder of the greatest number of victories in this competition between the members of the top 8 of the ATP. He beats the Swiss Roger Federer’s record, a few months after breaking Rafael Nadal’s Grand Slam record (24, already two more than the Spaniard). 2023 will have been a prolific year for the thirty-year-old who seems to be improving with age. At 36 years old, he displays formidable solidity in his game and mentally, and is still chasing other exploits.
