European Parliament Questions European Commission on EU Fulfillment of Obligations to Deliver Artillery Ammunition to Ukraine

Members of the European Parliament (EP) will question the European Commission (EC) on Tuesday, November 21, about how the European Union (EU) fulfills its obligations to deliver one million rounds of artillery ammunition to Ukraine, informs EP press secretary in Latvia Jānis Krastiņš.

At the beginning of this year, the ministers of the EU member states agreed to provide Ukraine with one million rounds of artillery ammunition by March 2024, using the stockpiles of the member states and conducting joint procurement.

Kyiv’s armed forces have often highlighted the issue of ammunition shortages. However, recently, senior European officials have indicated that the EU is having difficulties in achieving the set goal.

During question time, MEPs plan to ask the EC about the reasons and how the EU can better support Ukraine.

LETA already wrote that in December 2022, Moscow issued an ultimatum to the West, demanding to stop the further expansion of NATO to the east, as well as the dismantling of the infrastructure of the alliance in the so-called new member states, restoring the situation that existed on May 27, 1997, that is, before the first NATO expansion.

Putin has threatened that if Moscow does not receive the “security guarantees” he demanded, he will have to implement “military-technical measures”. However, the United States and other NATO members declared at the time that these demands were unacceptable and not even negotiable, but showed readiness to talk about arms control, missile deployment and measures to strengthen mutual trust.

On February 24 of last year, the Russian army invaded Ukraine, starting to shell not only military but also civilian objects.
