Moscow. November 19. INTERFAX.RU – The Finnish military, together with border guards, are erecting barriers on the border with Russia, European media report.

It is noted that the construction of additional protective barriers has begun in the Finnish Vartius, which remains an active border crossing on the border with Russia.

“With the help of heavy army equipment, excavators and cranes, fences and other barriers are being erected to protect the border checkpoint from an uncontrolled influx of immigrants,” the publications write.

It is noted that “the situation is calm now, but, according to intelligence data, “it is likely that more and more immigrants will arrive from Russia.”

More than 1.3 thousand border service employees are involved in protecting the Finnish-Russian border, and police reinforcements have also been deployed to it.

The Finnish government decided to close the crossings on the border with Russia on the night of November 18 in the southeast of the country – Vaalimaa, Nuijamaa, Niirala and Imatra. On the eastern border, the Vartius, Salla, Kuusamo and Raja-Jooseppi border crossings remain open.

This decision was justified by the fact that recently, according to Finnish media, the number of asylum seekers trying to get into Finland through the Russian border has increased significantly.
