Pouring rain: Car overturned on the A8 and ended up on its roof

Three car occupants may have had at least a little guardian angel in a serious accident on Sunday in the early hours of the morning. The driver of a small car lost control of his vehicle in pouring rain on the Innkreis motorway (A8) near Krenglbach in the Wels-Land district, presumably due to aquaplaning. The car then left the highway and rolled over into an embankment, where it came to rest on the roof of the vehicle.

The driver and the two other passengers were able to climb out of the completely demolished car on their own and were given first aid by the rescue team before they were taken to the Wels Clinic. The trio probably escaped lightly with minor injuries.

“When we arrived at the scene of the accident, the vehicle occupants were already being treated by the rescue team,” says Alexander Köhegyi from the Geisensheim Volunteer Fire Department, “but it was not the first incident on this route.” There have been several accidents in this area in the recent past.

The cleanup work by the Pichl fire departments near Wels and Geisensheim lasted until shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday morning. At that time, the Innkreis motorway in the direction of the Voralpenkreuz junction was only passable in one lane between Pichl and the Wels junction for three quarters of an hour.
