(PLO) – Many schools in the Central Highlands refused to accept flowers and called on parents and organizations to use this money to buy health insurance for poor students with serious illnesses.
On November 19, Ms. Pham Thi Trung, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Kon Tum province, said that on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day, many local places have organized meaningful activities. In particular, the department’s leaders noted that Dak Xu Primary and Secondary School has donated hundreds of insurance policies to disadvantaged students.
Refuse to accept flowers
Mr. Nguyen Hong Phuong, Principal of Dak Xu Primary and Secondary School (Ngoc Hoi district) said the school has received 130 health insurance cards (582,300 VND/card) from sponsors. There are cases where 100 cards are given away at once.
This is the result of the school’s campaign in the program “health insurance cards for poor students instead of fresh flowers for teachers”.
The letter from the Primary School – Middle School stated: “On the occasion of the 41st anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day on November 20, instead of receiving fresh flowers to show gratitude to teachers and the school. The teachers’ collective wishes to receive fresh flowers that are “health insurance cards” for poor and difficult students.
In Dak Lak, many schools are located in areas where many ethnic minorities live refused to accept flowers.
Ms. Doan Thi Tuyet Yen, Principal of To Hieu Primary School (Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak) said that after five days of campaigning, benefactors donated 38 health insurance cards to the school. This is the result after a campaign where people often joined hands to help 55 children in difficult circumstances.
According to Ms. Yen, every teacher’s charter day, the school receives a lot of congratulatory flowers from parents and students. This also demonstrates the people’s spirit of “respecting teachers and respecting morality” towards teachers.
However, the school can only use these flowers for a few days and then have to throw them away. That’s why it would be a waste. Therefore, the school has the idea that instead of losing this money, switch to a more meaningful form.
Due to the impact of the prolonged epidemic situation, many students’ families are facing many difficulties. To Hieu Primary School also has 55 children. Due to difficult family circumstances, they do not have money to buy health insurance cards for them.
Therefore, instead of buying flowers for teachers, the school would like to exchange it for giving students health insurance cards so that the school can give them to the children. The value of each health insurance card is 631,800 VND.
As for Ms. H’Tu Byă, Principal of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Primary School, Ea Huar commune, Buon Don district (Dak Lak), said the school has thoroughly understood that students, parents and workers do not organize visits to teachers. School staff and leaders gave gifts.
According to Ms. H’Tu Byă, expressing gratitude to teachers does not necessarily require coming to their homes to visit and give gifts. Students just need to be obedient, polite, studious, and study well. Giving teachers flowers with 10 points is a great gift for teachers.
It is known that Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Primary School currently has 16 classes with more than 400 students, of which 216 are ethnic minorities.
Mobilized more than 65 million VND to help students with serious diseases
Ms. Yen informed that, right from the beginning of the school year, when she received information that H’jenny Enuol (a student of class 1G, To Hieu Primary School) had a serious illness, the school assigned her to be in charge of the team directly connecting with parents.
“We learned that H’jenny’s parents are taking H’jenny to Ho Chi Minh City for radiation treatment. This is the reason why I am often absent from school. Her family’s situation is also difficult, such as not having a house and her parents not having stable jobs. From then on, she was in charge of the team as well as the Board of Directors and found every way to mobilize and call for financial support for my family,” Ms. Doan Thi Tuyet Yen shared.
Ms. Pham Thi Cam (in charge of the team) said that the school began to mobilize the Buon Ma Thuot City Team Council to call on the teams to join hands to help H’jenny. In particular, at flag-raising ceremonies, or in zalo and facebook groups, the house also launched a support movement.
“When we posted the information, many parents and students sympathized with her family’s situation. In just a short time, more than 65 million VND was donated. All of this money was listed and made public… then transferred to H’jenny’s mother,” Ms. Cam confided.
Ms. H’Mong Enuol (H’Jenny’s mother, 36 years old, living in Ale B village, Ea Tam ward, Buon Ma Thuot city) said that thanks to 65 million VND mobilized and supported by To Hieu Primary School, I just have money to take my child to radiotherapy.
“Up to now, I have taken my child to radiotherapy in Ho Chi Minh City five times, each trip costing nearly 10 million VND. My husband and I don’t have stable jobs, we just work every day, everyone is hired to do whatever they want,” Ms. H’Mrong Enuol said sadly.
Talking about the work of Dak Xu Primary and Secondary School, Ms. Pham Thi Trung assessed: “The Department does not have a policy but rather the voluntariness and concern of students’ parents and all levels and administrators.” school, a school for students in difficult circumstances. On November 20, instead of receiving gratitude and encouragement, the teachers gave all the best things to their students, which is a noble gesture.”
