Russian forward of the New York Rangers Artemy Panarin extended his own scoring streak at the start of the season to 15 matches and set records for Russia and his club for the longest scoring streak since the start of the season.
Panarin scored a goal in the first period of the match with New Jersey and scored points in the 15th of 15 matches of the season. Panarin broke the record for Russian NHL players – it was set by Dmitry Kvartalnov, the current head coach of Dynamo Minsk, when he played for Boston in the 1992-93 season.
Panarin also broke a club record – in the 1972/73 season, Rod Gilbert managed to score points in 14 consecutive matches at the start of the season. At the moment, Panarin has scored 9 goals and completed 16 assists this season.
The NHL record for the longest scoring streak in the 21st century belongs to Dany Heatley and is 22 games.
