Elon Musk’s company SpaceX launched its Starship mega rocket, but the booster and then the capsule exploded minutes after launch, world agencies reported.
The booster was supposed to take the spacecraft into space, but communication was lost eight minutes after liftoff from the company’s launch pad in Texas. Elon Musk’s company announced that the rocket was damaged.
In the live broadcast on social network X, SpaceX engineer John Insprucker told Musk: “Elon, we have a problem, we lost the data from the second one… we may have lost it.” He then added that the missile may have self-detonated as a precaution: “We believe the automated flight termination system appears to have activated very late in the burn.”
The first test flight in April also ended with an explosion four minutes after launch, BTA recalled. Seven months later, the 121-meter rocket was launched from the Boca Chica site. The purpose of the test was to separate the space capsule from the rocket and head into space.
Starship is the largest and most powerful space rocket ever built.
