Feeling protected in the United States is as necessary as working to cover the needs of daily life. The most important value that we must take care of is health and life. To do this, we deserve to be prepared for the health insurance enrollment and renewal period, which is about to begin, through the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare.
From November 1 to January 15, people will have the opportunity to apply for low-cost medical coverage with excellent benefits, even if they have pre-existing medical conditions, including general check-ups, care with specialists, access to an emergency room, hospitalization without any coverage limit, pregnancy care, and all the care required in the event of a chronic, critical or terminal illness.
To qualify for benefits, these are the requirements that must be met:
Have current legal immigration status in the United States, that is, citizens, residents or holders of a work permit. Applicants must declare their taxes, at least the minimum established in the Federal Poverty Table, which is updated every year. This should be consulted with a person knowledgeable in the matter. Married people must file taxes with their spouse, so they can qualify for family coverage. Those who have health insurance through their employer will not be able to apply for coverage through the health market.
If the person moved, got married, divorced, had children, or even if their income changed, you should notify your insurance advisor. The best time is now, so that the professional can locate the best options that fit the current reality and need.
It is advisable to apply before December 15, to have the peace of mind of being insured on the first day of 2024. If you do so at a later date, medical coverage will begin on February 1. Being aware of the high costs that can be incurred, it is not appropriate to take the risk of spending a month without protection.
When in doubt as to whether you qualify or not, it is necessary to request help from an expert insurance advisor, so that you are correctly guided and can guide you throughout the application process. Many people try to apply on their own without proper knowledge and guidance. For that reason, they do not take full advantage of the benefits.
